If you're in read-only mode in Webflow and changes aren't being saved, it's usually due to project permissions or account access issues.
1. Confirm Ownership or Team Role
- Webflow makes a project read-only if you’re not the Owner or a Team member with Edit rights.
- If you're accessing a project shared via a workspace or team, ensure you're assigned an Editor, Designer, or Admin role with design access.
2. Check for Webflow Enterprise Permissions
- If the project is under a Webflow Enterprise account, permissions may be restricted by the org admin.
- Ask an admin to verify your designer role and workspace permissions within the enterprise dashboard.
3. Switch to a Workspace Where You Have Edit Rights
- Click the Webflow logo in the top left to return to the Dashboard.
- Make sure you're in the correct workspace (displayed on the left panel) that gives you design access.
- If you have access to multiple workspaces, choose the one that owns the project you’re trying to edit.
4. Duplicate the Project (if allowed)
- If you cannot gain edit access, click the three-dot menu on the project card in your dashboard.
- Select Duplicate to make an editable copy (only possible if the project permissions or Owner allow it).
5. Log In With the Correct Account
- Sometimes users are logged into a personal account and not the one with proper access.
- Log out and log in with the account that originally created or was granted edit access to the project.
6. Contact the Project Owner
- If you’re locked in read-only and expect to have access, contact the Workspace Owner or Admin to upgrade your access level in the team settings.
Summary
To exit Webflow's read-only mode, make sure you're in the correct workspace with design permissions, check that you're logged in with the right account, or request additional access from the project owner.
