If your Webflow site has unnecessary CMS Collections that are no longer used, you can clean them up to streamline your project and potentially improve performance.
1. Identify Unused Collections
- Go to your Webflow Designer.
- Open the CMS panel (Database icon).
- Review each Collection to see whether it contains any items or whether those items are used on any pages (Collection Lists, Collection Pages, etc.).
2. Remove All Collection Items
- Webflow won’t let you delete a Collection if it contains items.
- For each unused Collection, click into it and delete all items manually.
- If you have multiple, consider selecting them using shift+click (available only in the Collections page within the CMS panel).
3. Unlink Collection Usage
- If the Collection is being used in any Collection Pages, Collection Lists, or Template Pages, you'll need to remove those elements first.
- Check:
- Pages using Collection Lists (e.g., Home, Blog, About).
- Template Pages under the CMS section (e.g., Blog Post Template).
- Delete any bindings or elements tied to that Collection before deletion.
4. Delete the Collection
- Once all items are removed and the Collection is no longer used in your design:
- Go to the CMS panel.
- Hover over the empty Collection and click the Trash icon.
- Confirm to permanently delete it.
5. Clean Up Fields and Components
- If you created Symbols, Custom Code, or Filters using Collection fields, double-check those elements to ensure you’ve cleared all CMS references.
Summary
To remove unnecessary Webflow Collections, clear all items from the Collection, remove any in-use bindings or components related to it, and then delete the Collection via the CMS panel. Always double-check its usage across pages to avoid unintended design issues.
