Webflow offers two main types of plans: account plans and site plans, each serving a different purpose. Here’s how they differ and which one is best for a personal portfolio site.
1. Account Plan: For Designer Access and Project Management
- Account plans (also called Workspace plans) allow you to use Webflow’s Designer and manage how many sites and collaborators you can work with.
- With a free account plan, you can:
- Design up to 2 unhosted (non-published) projects.
- Use the Webflow Designer with full functionality.
- If you’re freelancing or working with a team, paid account plans give more features like expanded project limits and code export.
Important: An account plan alone does not let you publish a live site under a custom domain.
2. Site Plan: For Hosting and Going Live
- A site plan is required to publish a specific site with a custom domain (e.g., yourname.com).
- Each website you want to host publicly needs its own site plan.
- Site plans are priced per site, either for:
- General websites (e.g., portfolio, personal, blog).
- Ecommerce sites (for selling products).
The Basic ($14/month) or CMS ($23/month) site plan is enough for most portfolio sites. CMS is recommended if you want to add dynamic content like blog posts or case study entries via the Webflow CMS.
3. Recommended Plan for Your Portfolio Site
- For a simple, non-business portfolio site, you can:
- Use the free account plan to design.
- Add a Basic site plan when you're ready to publish your site with a custom domain.
You do not need a paid account plan unless you hit design limits or want to collaborate with others.
Summary
Account plans control your Webflow Designer access and project creation limits. Site plans host individual websites on a live custom domain. For your portfolio, designing with a free account plan and adding a Basic site plan when ready to publish is the most cost-effective route.
