Webflow only allows imported templates from its own marketplace, so third-party templates aren't directly supported. Here's how this works and what you can do instead.
1. Webflow Template Usage Policy
- Only templates from the official Webflow Template Marketplace can be used directly in a Webflow project.
- You cannot import templates designed for Webflow but sold or downloaded outside of Webflow's marketplace.
- Webflow does not support external project file imports like .zip or custom source templates.
2. Workarounds for Third-Party Templates
If you have a third-party template designed in Webflow (exported by another user or designer), you have two main options:
- Rebuild the layout manually in your Webflow project by copying structure, styles, and assets from the third-party design.
- Use Webflow's “Duplicate Site” feature only if the original project is shared with you from another Webflow account and the Free Cloning is enabled.
3. Using External HTML Templates
If your template is just an HTML/CSS/JS file set:
- You cannot import or convert HTML files directly into Webflow.
- Instead, recreate the layout manually by adding containers, elements, and styles using Webflow’s Designer.
- Upload any required assets (images, fonts) manually to the Assets panel.
Summary
You can't use non-Webflow marketplace templates directly in a new Webflow project. As a workaround, you'll need to rebuild the layout manually or request a clonable Webflow project from the original designer.
